HI!
My name is Lisa Muñoz, and I am currently in my 6th year of teaching at Elkhart Central High School. Before becoming a Blazer, I did my undergraduate coursework
at Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana. My major was English with double minors in secondary education and bilingual/bicultural education. This past spring I
completed my master's degree in English (with an emphasis in teaching) from Western Michigan University, located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. At school I enjoy working at the Blazer Connections after school program, being the freshmen class sponsor, and co-sponsor of the Move 2 Stand anti-bullying club.
I truly enjoy being a teacher, and I wanted to be one for as long as I can remember. My mission as an educator is to help my students learn about themselves and the world around them by using engaging literature. I like to challenge my students to think critically and fully engage in whatever it is we are doing. My goal is to prepare them for their future, and with the help of parents, guardians, and the community, we can help our students be successful in the classroom and better citizens that will be able to actively contribute to our local as well as global community.
Outside of school, there are many things that I enjoy. My husband and I live just over the state line in Edwardsburg, Michigan with our two small dogs, Reesey and Poncho. We enjoy working outside when the weather is nice, but we also enjoy watching movies at home. Since my husband is from Costa Rica, (I met him while studying abroad in college) I am a fluent Spanish speaker. I have been to Costa Rica 13 times, and I have also been to Mexico several times as well. Traveling is one of my passions, so we hope to go to many more world-wide destinations in the coming years. I also enjoy reading, going out with my friends and spending time with family, who all live in the area. In addition to teaching, I am also a freelance makeup artist for MAC cosmetics and just started my own freelance business called "Beauty & Bliss." Working with makeup has always been another passion of mine, so I am glad that I have been able to continue cultivating my skills in this profession as well.
I look forward to getting to know you all over the course of this school year. Together, we can make great things happen for our students!
Lisa
